The sixth lace exhibition in Ozalj will include 8 Croatian lace centers, and present lace from Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Montenegro, Norway and Canada. The exhibition will be opened on April 30, 2021, on the 350th anniversary of the deaths of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsto Frankopan, with which we want to further emphasize its cultural identity within the general Croatian identity.
Today, lace in Croatia connects lace centers and everyone is really happy when they can go from one place to another and present their works, but above all exchange their experiences at lace exhibitions and festivals. To enable this, in 2021 the sixth lace exhibition in Ozalj will be held as usual in the gallery space of the Ozalj Homeland Museum, but many contents will be available online in order to reach as many people as possible to exchange experiences and popularize lacemaking.
Jalba as a cultural asset with local peculiarities, defined by geographical, cultural and sociological component of the village Trg, seeks to become a more widespread cultural phenomenon, while KUD “Ključ from Trg” seeks to maintain the tradition of making jalba in the Ozalj area. As this statement applies to the complaint, it also applies to other Croatian lace and lace centers, but also the side that we will present at the sixth lace exhibition in Ozalj.
Lacemaking can also be said to be based on sociability, social engagement, which is unfortunately unattainable for everyone at this time of COVID. The tradition of making individual lace is mostly passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, story, teaching. Numerous lace centers were held precisely because mostly women, gathered in smaller societies, making beautiful lace handicrafts, maintained social contacts with their neighbors, friends, and sometimes they would earn something from it. In villages like Trg čipka, that is, the jalba was a status symbol. A symbol that bound a woman to her family, a symbol that put her as a married woman in the village on the pedestal of protection, but also general condemnation, if the village does some circumstances, and even gossip, so judge.
